RECREATION DEPARTMENT INFORMATION

Swim
[swim application]
Fee: residents/taxpayers $10 per session/ $30 max per family per session ($30
nonresident; no max) Resident scholarships.
Program runs in two 3-week sessions late June-mid July; mid July-early August at
both Highland Lake Beach and Woods Pond Beach.
Preschool through Red Cross Level VI. Red Cross certified Water Safety
Instructors
280 participants
Lifeguarding
Highland Lake Beach & Woods Pond Beach staffed by lifeguards 11-4PM late June
through early August during swim lessons and on weekends.
Gymnastics
and Dance-summer/winter
In 2007 summer gymnastics will be run by Western Maine Dance & Gymnastics at
their studio on Portland Street across from Stevens Brook Elementary School.

Basketball
$25 fee; $35 maximum per family. Sign-ups and draft workouts in November. All
children play. Season runs January through mid-March
All Rec teams part of Lake Region Youth Basketball. Boys teams and girls team,
grades 5 - 6; 3 -4; 1-2 (instructional)

2 Major league teams (ages 9-12) select; 22 participants, almost all boys
Babe Ruth team (ages 13-15) (no team fielded in 2004 & 2005)
Softball
Fee: $25/$35 max per family; Scholarships available (all girls-no prohibition
against boys)
Sign-ups & workouts in March. Season runs May through early July (June-July
13-15 year-olds)
Part of Amateur Softball Association (ASA)
2 teams (ages 7-8) 26 participants
1 team (ages 9-10) 16 participants
2 teams (ages 11-12) 29 participants
ages 13-15 team (no teams fielded in 2004 & 2005)
Soccer
Run by Lake Region Youth Soccer. Fee: $40 per child gr. 1-6; $55 per family.
Discounted fee if registered by June 30 $20 per child & $35 per family. Lower
fee applies to new residents until September 10. Kindergarten $15 per child.
Season runs September through early November. Teams are Kindergarten (clinc-style
program); boys and girls teams grade 1-2; 3-4; 5-6. @145 participants from
Bridgton. Town contributes $800 to League. Town provides fields.
Teen Adventure
Program
Summer trips:
Trip to Laser Tag/Water Slide/ Rock Climbing at the “Big Adventure” in Bethel
Whitewater rafting on Kennebec River
Trip to Whales Tale Water Park in Lincoln, NH (ages 10 and up)
Fee varies per trip; town provides transportation. Participants pay entry fees.
Ice Rink
Seasonal -- normally open late December through early March 3-6P.M. weekdays;
10-4P.M. Sat., Sun., holidays and school vacations. Also used by adults and
homeschoolers during the day during the week. Some youth hockey after public
hours. Several scout functions on weekends (after supervised hours).
Men’s Hockey
Seasonal, November through April at Bridgton Ice Arena. Fee: $10/player/1.5 hr.
session. Participants 80.

Youth Hockey
Seasonal, November through April at Bridgton Ice Arena. Fee: $380 per child
through USA Hockey. Participants close to 60. Lake Region Youth Hockey @$35 per
child. Run at Naples outdoor rink.
Open Gym
No fee. November through March Sundays (10-4 P.M.) when other events not booked,
holidays and school vacations (10-3 P.M.) at Town Hall. 10-30 participants per
day, boys & girls, a few adults.
Men’s Basketball
Currently a pick-up group playing Thursday nights from 7:30-10 P.M. at Town
Hall. $5 per player for season.
Volleyball
Plans call for co-ed volleyball sessions starting in January.
Karate

Field Hockey
Lake Region Field Hockey. Associated program. Girls gr 4-6. September-November.
Fee: $15 per child. 15-20 participants.
Youth Football
Lake Region Youth Football. Associated program. Boys gr. 4-6.
September-November. Fee: $35. 60 participants. Run primarily out of Naples.

Jumpin’ Janes fitness meets MWF 9-10A.M. at Town Hall. No fee. 10-30
participants depending upon the season.
Extensive senior programs now run through the Community Center, call 647-3116
Aerobics
Adults. Meets T/Th 8-9 A.M. at Town Hall. Associated program. Dee Miller,
instructor. 20 Participants. Fee to instructor.
Halloween Party
Halloween night. 6-7:30 P.M. Town Hall. Kids preschool-gr. 6. Donations more
than cover cost of party. Donations @ $50/year. Fee: 0.
Kids Christmas
Party
Follows Festival of Lights Parade & Christmas Tree lighting. 6:30-8:30 P.M.
at Community Center. Free hot chocolate and snacks; visit with Santa. Volunteers
& donations cover most of cost. Fee: $0.
Ping Pong
Open to all. Moderately skilled to highly skilled players; 6 tables at Town Hall
gym, 1-4 P.M. most Saturdays, $1 donation
